What does a typical day look like for a Family Centered Treatment® (FCT) Practitioner? The truth is—no two days are ever the same.
Each morning starts with checking emails and reviewing the day’s schedule, knowing that every session and every family will bring something different. The work is dynamic, meaningful, and deeply rooted in meeting families where they are.
A practitioner’s day may include:
• Attending trainings
• Collaborating with teammates and peers
• Reviewing assessments and creating action plans
• Researching strategies and skills to better support families
• Preparing documentation to ensure quality care
And most importantly—spending time directly with families.
Because families’ schedules vary, sessions may happen during the day, in the evening, or even on weekends. Appointments can range from late morning to as late as 8:30 p.m., all to ensure families receive the support they need when they need it most.
Communication is also a big part of the role. Practitioners regularly connect with caseworkers and team members, ensuring everyone stays informed and aligned in supporting each family’s progress.
Even on busy days, it’s important to pause and recharge—whether that’s stepping out for a quick walk with a dog, taking care of personal tasks, or planning for life events like an upcoming wedding.
When asked what drives her, Alexia Gibson, FCT Practitioner with LFS shared that she feels a strong sense of security and support at LFS, which allows her to fully focus on the work she does with families.

Alexia values this from her role:
• Helping families see new perspectives
• Encouraging them to think outside the box
• Watching meaningful change unfold over time
While it can be bittersweet when a family completes the program, it’s also incredibly rewarding. Hearing gratitude from families and seeing their growth is what makes the work so impactful.
*FCT practitioners also appreciate the creativity and flexibility of their role—having the freedom to tailor approaches, collaborate with their team, and make a real difference in the community.
At the end of the day, it’s about more than just services— it’s about strengthening families, reducing system involvement, and creating lasting change.
