Phase 1 Update: Lutheran Family Services Lexington Emergency Fund
We are proud to share that Phase 1 of the Lexington Emergency Relief Fund has been successfully completed, providing direct financial assistance to individuals and families impacted in our community.
Phase 1 Impact (March–April 2026)
- 1,190 applications processed
- 4,292 individuals impacted
- $595,000 distributed directly into the community
Each approved applicant received $500 in direct support. This initiative reached a remarkably diverse group of community members, reflecting the broad need across Lexington. Assistance was provided to households speaking multiple languages, including Spanish, Somali, English, and Arabic, ensuring equitable access and outreach across communities. Thanks to the collaboration of community partners, outreach teams, and funders, support was distributed quickly and efficiently to individuals facing urgent financial hardship.
Phase 2: Lutheran Family Services Lexington Emergency Fund
Phase 2 Eligibility Requirements
- Must be recently laid off by Tyson Food Company in Lexington, Nebraska, as part of its official closing on Jan 20, 2026.
- Eligibility is limited to households with at least one child age 8 or younger (families or single parents).
- If eligible, each adult will receive $250, and each child will receive $150 as a one-time cash assistance payment (Adult 19 and older, child 18 and younger).
- Must provide proof of direct household members using one of the following documents: lease agreement, DHHS benefits letter, school letter, or another acceptable form of verification.
- Applicants must go through the intake process in person at the Lutheran Family Services office in Lexington, NE, and present all necessary documentation of the household and family information.

Registration
- Individuals are able to book an appointment on Mondays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Must first register for an appointment by calling one of the following numbers (Services available in Somali/English: 308.408.1954 and Spanish/English: 308.746.8569).
- Interpretation services will be provided, if needed.
Check Pickup
- Checks must be picked up from LFS office in Lexington in person.
- Checks are only given to the person who it was issued for & they must bring an ID.
- Checks will be given on Fridays only.
