2024 Symposium

Critical Needs, New Opportunities: Symposium Challenges Realities of Delivering Human Care

When you get right down to it, it is the work that makes society run smoothly. Nonprofits that deliver human care are solving the challenges that no one wants to think about– especially in their own neighborhoods.

“We’re the community safety net,” says Wayne Brown, CEO of Urban League of Nebraska. “Everyone knows the work is getting done. They just don’t know who’s doing it.”

Chris Tonniges of Lutheran Family Services says, “Nonprofits build foundations for everyone else to thrive.” This unique regional conference was created to bring the best minds together to strategize mutual challenges for nonprofit executives.

As this year is an election year, the landscape could change significantly. It is essential to have conversations about its possible effects on the community we serve. This year’s Symposium will cover this topic and more.

What is the Human Care Symposium?

In its second year, the regional “Future of Human Care” Symposium includes panels on election-year impacts, the challenges of volunteer and donor development, and a spotlight on RISE! ‘s success in creating successful outcomes for the formerly incarcerated.

Children’s Hospital’s Chanda Chacon and Renee Rafferty will keynote the growing need for the new Behavioral Health facility at 90th and Dodge. Their topic is “Mental Health in Families and Generational Trauma.”

Visual artist Shawnequa Linder (shawnequalinder.com) will spend the day creating a special piece with materials gathered from a variety of nonprofits. Ms. Linder, a resident artist at Hot Shops, uses her work to explore the varying relationships between chaos and harmony, using a variety of textures.

The October 15th event is presented by Lutheran Family Services, the Urban League of Nebraska, and McGrath North Law. It will be held at the Scott Conference Center on the UNO Campus, 8:00-3:00 PM and followed by a Coneflower ice cream social.

Seats are filling up. Kindly direct RSVP’S to Renee Lauver at rlauver@mcgrathnorth.com or (402) 633-6866 by Friday, October 4, 2024.
