MEET: Emily Sutton – Statewide Administrator of Community Services

For the past 10 years, Emily Sutton has worked to increase access to health care and services for marginalized populations across the Midwest and abroad. Most recently, she served as the Regional State Assistance Director for the national health care enrollment coalition, Enroll America, where she supported hundreds of partners across eleven states in the Midwest, Central Plains, Southwest and Hawaii.

She provided ongoing support and training to partners in the quest to improve quality of outreach and enrollment services, with the goal of maximizing the number of Americans who enroll in, and retain, health coverage. Emily is passionate about addressing disparities in rural communities and across Indian Country. Emily developed a national coalition of Indian health leadership, working to increase communication between tribes, Indian health providers and in-person assisters.

While living in the Dominican Republic for two years, she volunteered as a social worker at an orphanage for children with severe medical disabilities. Once back in Omaha, she joined the behavioral health team at OneWorld Community Health Centers, offering crisis interventions, social services referrals, and financial assistance to high-risk community members. She was later promoted to the Outreach and Enrollment Manager, where she led a diverse team of more than 20 professionals in community outreach programs that focused on addressing health disparities and access to services for minorities and other underserved populations. Emily also led programs offering anthropometric services, health screenings and health education services via Community Health Educators at the Mexican Consulate and “Promotoras de Salud” (Community Health Workers) serving minority populations in Sarpy and Dodge counties.

Emily graduated from Creighton University with a degree in Social Work. In her spare time, she serves on several working groups and boards that address education, immigration support, and access to health services in the Omaha area. She offers consultancy services for organizational and team development, strategic planning, and community outreach.
