Now is the Time to Stand Strong with Refugees
The mission of Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska is “to express God’s love for all people.”
Expressing God’s love includes “welcoming the stranger.”
As people of faith, LFS stands in solidarity alongside refugees. We cannot forget who refugees are — they are parents and children who have lost everything. They fled discrimination, threats and violence in search of safety and a future of hope.
As of Friday, February 3, 2017, refugee resettlement to the United States has been halted by Executive Order of the President for at least 120 days. This is a critical moment!
LFS remains committed to serving refugees who already call Nebraska home! With your help, the LFS International Center of the Heartland in Omaha and our Lincoln refugee services will continue to offer support services during these unfunded, uncertain times.
Your gift today will help LFS sustain critical programs and ensure refugees are able to successfully rebuild their lives in America…the land of promise and hope! Thank you for Standing Strong for Refugees!

At a time when U.S. policy is closing our door to refugees, here is a prayer we are sharing with churches to use for “Prayers of the People” on Sunday.
God of the sojourner,
You leave no one behind, no one alone, and no one to dwell in darkness or fear.
You led your people out of Egypt to safety and a promised land. You protected Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus as they traveled into hiding from the murderous Herod.
This day, walk with all refugees fleeing for their lives, with those who wait in tents and open fields clinging to a small hope to rejoin family and rebuild their lives, and for all refugees who now dwell in darkness as our nation closes its door to them.
Our hearts are broken. Refugees who would be our new neighbors are now being forced to stay in harm’s way and away from the loving embrace we are ready to offer as a new family in a new land.
But fear will not overcome us. You are our light.
We pray for justice. We pray for compassion. We pray for all who govern that they may be blessed with wisdom and the courage to reflect your love in a broken world.
God, in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.
