OMAHA, Neb. (November 16, 2015) – On November 16, 2015, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Inc. (LFS) received a letter from Governor Pete Ricketts advising that his administration “opposes efforts to resettle Syrian refugees in Nebraska until security concerns have been fully addressed.” Governor Ricketts requests “all refugee resettlement agencies in our state decline to participate in potential resettlement efforts” of Syrians. We will honor the Governor’s request.

We agree with the Governor that “Nebraska is a welcoming place for families seeking a home to live, work, and raise a family.” LFS is a human care organization that has resettled refugees for over two decades. It is our mission to “express God’s love for all people by providing quality human care service that build and strengthen individual, family and community life.”

We look forward to continuing communication with the Governor’s office regarding this matter.

For further communication regarding this matter please contact Todd Reckling, vice president of program for LFS, at (402) 978-5674.
