Fandango seeks to “Restore and Create Safe and Happy Childhoods”
January 19, 2015 (Omaha, NE) – There’s an old saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. At Lutheran Family Services (LFS), we know this to be absolutely true.
Every day, we are teaching young, at-risk parents how to love and discipline their children appropriately, breaking cycles of child abuse. We are helping those young parents complete or continue their educations to break cycles of poverty. We are providing therapy to children who have been sexually abused – often breaking generational cycles of trauma.
Every dollar invested towards creating a safe and happy childhood increases the chances of better outcomes for these children – one, five, ten years down the road. In 2014 alone, 60 new mothers received early in-home parenting support, 278 children were treated for sexual abuse, 286 children engaged in early childhood mental health therapy, and 984 – nearly 1,000 babies and toddlers – received services through LFS’ three Centers for Healthy Families.
The upcoming “Fandango” fundraiser will help insure these programs continue to impact the lives of Greater Omaha’s most vulnerable children.
Nancy K. Johnson is honorary chair of the Friday, February 20, 2015 event. This year’s theme, “Fandango All-Stars” encourages attendees to wear their favorite sports-themed or casual attire. Fandango is organized by members of the LFS Forever Families Guild.
