October 15, 2014 (Grand Island, NE) – The public is invited to attend an Open House at the
newly co-located offices of Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska (LFS) and Legal Aid of
Nebraska.

The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce Connectors will be the special guests at the Ribbon
Cutting/Open House from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, October 17, 2014.
The two non-profits have moved into the same office space on the fourth floor of the Great
Western Bank Building at 1811 West 2nd Street, one floor above the previous LFS location.
Legal Aid of Nebraska moved from 207 West 3rd Street.

“We are excited about what this means for clients who require these services in the Greater Grand
Island area,” says Shawntal Smith, Statewide Director of LFS Community Services. “We are also
proud to co-locate with Legal Aid, which has been a long-time collaborative partner of LFS.”
Lori Wilson is Legal Aid’s managing attorney at the Grand Island office. She says “This move
gives us the opportunity to effectively and efficiently provide free civil legal services to lowincome
families in the Grand Island area.”

The organizations moved into the new offices in June.

Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska is a 122-year-old statewide, community-based human
care organization. LFS seeks safety, hope and well-being for all people through three core areas
of competency: children services, behavioral health and community services. On any given day,
LFS has open case files on over 2,000 children – and serves over 5,000 behavioral health
consumers statewide each year. LFS is the co-recipient of the 2013 Better Business Bureau
Integrity Award.

Legal Aid of Nebraska is a 50-year-old statewide organization which provides free legal
representation to underprivileged citizens. Legal Aid is the only non-profit law firm in Nebraska.
Legal Aid delivers innovative, specialized programs in order to strengthen the community and aid
those who have been pushed to the margins of self-sufficiency. Legal Aid helps Nebraskans
press back. Our charge is to help clients regain their independence by providing legal
representation, counseling and advocacy. Legal Aid is the co-recipient of the 2013 Better
Business Bureau Integrity Award.
