Lutheran Family Services Lexington Emergency Fund
Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is committed to assisting residents of Lexington, Nebraska, who have lost their jobs due to the Tyson closure. Thanks to a generous grant from the Sherwood Foundation, we are able to extend $500 to former employees. Eligibility requirements, appointment sign-ups, and other information is below.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be recently laid off by Tyson Food Company in Lexington, Nebraska, as part of its official closing on Jan 20, 2026.
- Affected individuals must present the following documents (Tyson recent paystubs, Tyson ID, and a valid government ID).
- Present in person to the Lutheran Family Services office in Lexington, NE.
- Provide an ID and basic personal demographic information, and be willing to follow the LFS registration process.
- Each eligible Individual will receive a flat $500 as emergency cash assistance for one time only.
- Must be unemployed currently and do not have any other major source of income.

Registration
- You must first register for an appointment using this page.
- If a client arrives without an appointment, they will be assisted in signing up if appointments are available.
- Appointments are only available during the following days and times: (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9 AM–4 PM)
- LFS will only be able to see up to 100 people per day.
- Arrive in person to Lutheran Family Services during the reserved appointment time only.
- Bring a personal a government ID and proof of being laid off from Tyson (Recent Tyson paystubs and Tyson ID)
- LFS staff will help with registration, and it should take up to 20 minutes.
- Interpretation will be provided if it is needed.
Check Pickup
- Checks must be picked up from LFS office in Lexington in person.
- Checks are only given to the person who it was issued for & they must bring an ID.
- For individuals whose registration was completed on Monday through Tuesday at noon, checks will be available on Thursday.
- For individuals whose registration was completed on Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, checks will be available for pickup on Friday.
