The month of August marks the culmination of Lutheran Family Services’ 130th Anniversary year. Our humble beginnings started in 1892 as orphanages in Fremont and Omaha provided love and care for children who needed it most. Our mission was forged then and continues today, having served 15,000 people across Nebraska and Western Iowa in 2022 alone.
Children, adults, families, veterans, seniors, refugees — all will find the comprehensive, community-based health and wellness services they need with Lutheran Family Services (LFS). As we look at our history, we’re proud of our roots and excited for the years ahead. LFS has experienced significant renewal and growth recently. We have a new look, a new headquarters, new programs, and new initiatives — so much so that we titled this the year to “Meet LFS.”
As our 130th Anniversary year ends, we’re wrapping up the celebratory effort unlike anything we’ve done before. We’re asking for 130 individuals, families, churches, or organizations to become sustaining givers. Will you be 1 of 130?

What does it mean to be 1 of 130?
This year, we’ve celebrated our birthday in a new way: by engaging 130 sustaining givers! By becoming 1 of 130, you are choosing to make a monthly donation that will make a difference today and for the future of LFS and the thousands of people we serve every year.
You can be 1 of 130 by supporting us at one of the following levels:
- Founder’s Society – $18.92/month
- In honor of the year LFS was founded as an orphanage in Fremont.
- Frontline Society – $50/month
- Supports the approximately 50 clients who visit our Boutiques every month. The Boutiques provide baby items, toiletries, and clothing for children and families.
- Superintendent Society – $75/month
- The eventual salary of our orphanage superintendent who served voluntarily during the Great Depression.
- Anniversary Society – $130/month
- In honor of 130 years of LFS changing lives and an investment in 130 more.
